Christmas tree

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!!

I'm off up north for the festive season so see you in the new year!

This is called a beam tree. It was produced at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Centre and is on display in the University of Edinburgh physics department. The blurb on the display says:
"The beautiful design is made by bombardment with an electron beam. A tap with a metal punch causes all of the embedded electrons to flow out in an explosive discharge. The permanent damage to the plastic is due to the resultant current flow."

So there you go!
